Refugees. Victims of misrule and indifference

59.5 million. This is the number of people who found themselves displaced from their country of origin in 2014 because of persecution, conflicts, widespread violence and human rights violations. That number is 8.3 million more people than in 2013. In this Paper, we look at the reasons behind such a worrying increase and we propose solutions in order to respond to a situation which is already out of control.

Author

Deputy Director of Cristianisme i Justícia. He holds a degree in Psychology from the Universitat de Barcelona, a degree in Theology from the Institut de Teologia Fonamental and a Master's degree in Political Theory from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He teaches Social Morality at the Institut Superior de Ciències Religioses de Barcelona (ISCREB). He is President of the Board of Trustees of Fundació Migra Studium.

Jesuit, architect and theologian. At Berkeley, in the United States, he furthered his studies in the area of migration theology. He has worked with the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Liberia, Nogales (US-Mexico border), Kakuma (Kenya) and South Sudan. He is currently based in Barcelona as delegate of the Jesuit Apostolic Platform of Catalonia. He collaborates in the Hospitality project of the Migra Studium Foundation.
