Fernández de Henestrosa (PPH)

Josep M.

Fernández de Henestrosa (PPH)

Jesuit who lived in Bolivia for more than 30 years. From 1972 to 2001 he lived and worked with the Aymara people, first in Tiwanaku and then in Q'urpa, giving himself body and soul. Q'urpa became an important center of education and health for the whole area, generating a large and diverse community. He was pastor of two very large parishes, doing important pastoral work with catechists and permanent deacons. He showed great respect and admiration for the Aymara culture and its religious manifestations and helped to bring them out of hiding, promoting and encouraging Aymara theology. In 2004 he died in Barcelona. Posthumously, we published Cartas desde el altiplano interior (EIDES n. 45).
